An unusual trait of this raptor is the double-jointed knees it possesses, which enable it to reach into nests upside down.

Our opening dates for 2021 have shifted to the 2nd Our opening dates for 2021 have shifted to the 2nd of September 2021.

This decision has not been an easy one but is necessary for the protection of our local communities, wildlife, and staff. With very little research being done on the effects of primates, we need to take all the extra precautions required to protect our western lowland gorilla population.

Over the next couple of months, we will ensure we take all the safety measures necessary to avoid issues for guests, and the possible spread of the virus to the surrounding areas of Odzala- Kokoua National Park.

This young male western lowland gorilla will grow This young male western lowland gorilla will grow up to weigh approximately 180kg. At full maturity he would be able to bench press 1810kg, while a well trained man could only lift about 401kgs.

Seems only fitting that silverbacks are referred to as the kings of the jungle with that kind of strength.

REOPENING OF TOURISM
IN THE CONGO BASIN POSTPONED

Taking into consideration the virulent spread of COVID-19 and the recent cases of transmission from humans to gorillas in the San Diego zoo, the park managing authorities have jointly agreed that the national parks in the Congo Basin remain closed until further notice.

The reopening of Odzala Discovery Camps has therefore been postponed until 2 September 2021.
