Here, in the tangled forests of Odzala, it’s not just about watching the gorillas, it’s an opportunity engage with science and nature through exploration.⁣
⁣
Founded on research and conservation, our gorilla tracking experiences at both Ngaga Camp and Sangha Lodge are conscious of our impact. We believe in observation, not engagement, and connecting with the gorilla families we meet in a respectful, authentic and personal way.⁣

Every jungle is a forest, but not every forest is Every jungle is a forest, but not every forest is a jungle…⁣
⁣
A ‘jungle’ is a dense mass of vegetation and trees and is difficult to penetrate, which is exactly what we have in the Congo Basin and also very similar to the Amazon jungles. The word ‘forest’ is instead used to denote large tracts of land covered by trees, and this actually includes jungles as well as other wooded areas.⁣

Have you ever seen a bongo? The antelope is the la Have you ever seen a bongo? The antelope is the largest, heaviest, and most colourful African forest antelope – and when staying with us, you might be fortunate enough to glimpse the Lowland/Western Bongo.⁣
⁣
It has an auburn or chestnut coat with 10 to 15 vertical whitish-yellow stripes running down its sides and females are usually more brighter in colour than the males. Both males and females have spiralled lyre-shaped horns. The large ears are believed to sharpen hearing, and the distinctive colouration may help bongos identify one another in their dark forest habitats. They have no special secretion glands and so rely less on scent to find one another than do other similar antelopes.⁣

Meet Pedro, Field Guide at Odzala Discovery Camps. Meet Pedro, Field Guide at Odzala Discovery Camps.⁣
⁣
Having spent most of his life in a big city, Pedro’s love for all things nature started on the small screen – and then all changed the day he finally travelled to Africa and found out that the magic of the nature documentaries was real…⁣
⁣
Becoming a guide for Pedro was about seeing, feeling and hearing the wild and was the perfect way to test all his senses, every moment of every day. Being able to share his passion for the natural world with people is for him the most rewarding part of being a guide, and it’s his insatiable hunger for learning that keeps him going through thick and thin.⁣

For us, being in the rainforests of the Congo Basi For us, being in the rainforests of the Congo Basin is about slowing down, breathing, and absorbing everything that nature has to offer. Our modern, hustling, bustling lives sometime make this harder to achieve, but once you’ve been in the forest for a few days and settled into the rhythms of the trees and the ebb and flow of the verdant surroundings, you’ll start to notice the little things that aren’t immediately apparent… And that’s when you know you’re really immersing yourself into your journey.⁣
