”The past few days with these gorillas have been incredible. It was such an honour to be allowed a glimpse into their lives and witness first-hand just how gentle and beautiful they are. It’s also been fascinating to watch the expert trackers and guides at work, as without them, none of this would be possible.”

The beautiful forest elephants are the largest res The beautiful forest elephants are the largest residents of our forests in the Congo Basin. They are the world’s smallest elephant (bulls seldom weigh more than 3 tonnes), extremely elusive and, as a result, poorly understood. Most of our knowledge comes from research through their larger cousins, the savannah elephant, although many scientists are now dedicating time and research to the behaviour of forest elephants specifically.⁣
⁣
Sadly, as of March 2021 the forest elephant is officially listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Whilst this is devastating news, there is also hope that the classification, combined with research, will lead to a stability in forest elephant populations across Central Africa and the awareness raised will galvanise those who can help to do exactly that.⁣

With a rise in extreme weather, more and more species becoming endangered and a critical loss of forested areas across the globe, Mother Nature is quite clearly calling out to us.⁣

This year, let’s act boldly, innovate and dedicate our future to protecting both wildlife and humanity. This preservation of biodiversity is one of the many solutions to the climate crisis and critical to the survival of our wildest areas.⁣

Our feathered friends in the rainforest are truly magnificent and it’s a pleasure to spend some time watching them flitter through the tree canopy and out in the open.⁣

These photos are all by Brendon, and some of his most recent sightings. From left to right: a narina trogon, a pied kingfisher, a red-rumped tinkerbird, and a white-throated bee-eater.⁣

There’s nothing we love more than happy guests i There’s nothing we love more than happy guests in the rainforest – and this was a very happy group! They were a photographic group who spent some time at Ngaga and Mboko as well as Sangha Lodge and were led by intrepid private guide James Kydd. There was walking, gorilla tracking, sundowners, canoeing, drives, epic sightings and plenty of laughs along the way.

Thanks so much for your sharing your images James and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
